Robbery on Nevada Avenue
Last night, Friday, August 24, at 9:50 p.m., a woman in the 5600 block
of
Nevada Avenue (between Northampton and McKinley Streets) was robbed of
her
purse on her front porch just after she'd exited a car.  She was
carrying a suitcase, briefcase and purse and had not yet gotten her
house keys out.
The black male that accosted her was in his early twenties, neat in
appearance and very nervous.  He surprised her from behind, demanded her
purse three times, saying: "Get me your purse" in a soft-spoken voice.
Another male--a lookout--was on the sidewalk in front of the house and
after the purse was obtained, both individuals ran across Nevada Avenue
toward the corner of Northampton and entered a waiting silver car,
driven by a third person.  The car was last seen heading east on
Northampton toward Broad Branch Road.

The victim said the police responded very quickly and were very helpful.
Three patrol cars came.

Because keys to the victim's house and cars were in her purse, the
police
advised her to move her cars temporarily and to change her house locks.
She bought two clubs from the CCCA to put on her cars.

I am reporting this incident so that we can all learn and perhaps alter
our behavior because of our neighbor's unfortunate experience.

The police recommend the following:

1.  Before exiting a vehicle, try to assess whether anyone suspicious is
lurking nearby---either on foot or in a vehicle.

2.  If someone is bringing you home, please ask them to either walk you
to
your door or wait in their car until you get inside.

3.  Keep your home well lit both indoors and out.

4.  Have your keys ready.

5.  If possible, alert someone you're on your way so they can be on the
lookout for you.

6.  If you see people behaving suspiciously, do not approach them but
call
911 with a description of their appearance (clothing, height, weight,
hair) and, if possible, a tag number and vehicle description.

If anyone has information that could be helpful to the police regarding
this case, please call the Second District Detectives' Branch at
282-0043 and ask to speak to Sgt. Ron Wyatt.

Thank you.

From: "MPDC PSA 201" <mpdcpsa201@hotmail.com>

On Saturday, September 1st, PSA 201 recorded its 39th robbery of the
year.
The robbery occurred about 3:00pm in the 3900 block of Livingston St NW.
The victim was walking in the block when she was approached by a black
male who asked her for direction. The suspect then snatched her purse,
knocking her to the ground in the process. The suspect fled west on
livingston and was last seen entering a older model red vehicle. As a
result on this incident the victim received minor injuries to her hands
and knees.

The suspect is discribed as a black male 5'9", 25 to 30 yrs old, wearing
a
tan T-shirt and blue jeans. There is no additional information on the
vehicle.

In addition to the street robberies, there were two incidents of homes
broken into in the vicinity of 34th and Garfield. In one case, there was
a sexual assault of a woman in the house. I believe this happened around
August 28. Captain Poteat called to alert me, but I was away. For the
moment, I don't have any more information than this.
