REGARDING THE HIT AND RUN INCIDENT

Would the person who sent me that item please send me your e-mail
address again. I accidentally deleted your item, with your address, from
my screen -- Kathy Smith

**** From: "Pasichow, Heidi" <Heidi.Pasichow@usdoj.gov>
The September 25th incident is just horrible.  Is anyone on that block
having any work done at their house, gardeners scheduled for that day,
DPW work? I know detective Partman and will speak with him about this as
well.

**** From: Anji Henderson <vual7@yahoo.com>
About all these crimes and house break in's lately ... It seems to be a
trend... There is a rash of houses being broken in to just out side of
DC too.. In the Brookdale community area... Keep a look out and if you
see someone suspicious for goodness sakes let someone know...

Also about that truck in the alley ... Did anyone check if one of those
businesses got robbed at that time?? Maybe they have surveillance
cameras inside and I would be willing to bet if they got robbed they
were robbed by the same people in the truck...

**** From: Mike W.
This incident is indeed very serious, and alarming for its brazenness. I
have an uneasy reaction to the detective's assertion that the driver had
to be a resident or very familiar with the neighborhood. We all need a
'second opinion' on this case.

I find it highly unlikely that the person was a resident, since he would
have been taking a chance on being recognized and identified if the
victim survived. (as fortunately happened)

As for being familiar with the alley, it takes only one 'innocent' drive
through the alley to get all the familiarity cited by the detective.

It looks to me as a crook who was there for a reason and may have
suspected that the victim saw something he should not have seen, decided
to abort his plan and attempt to hurt the witness, without fear of being
recognized since he is NOT a local!
Hope he gets well soon.

Subject: Beautiful Desktop Flag
Thought you might like this - download it works - I now have the
American Flag flying on the bottom right of my screen It's easy to
download and it's FREE.

Desktop flag was created after the terrorist attacks of September 11 and
is dedicated to the memory of the victims. The creator hopes that this
little flag helps people demonstrate their condemnation of the senseless
act.

MORE ON SUPERCANS AND STREET LIGHT REPAIRS
From: "Robert Hyman" <roberthyman@erols.com>
I am still trying to get DPW to pick up any unwanted Supercans but this
is proving to be difficult. I think that if the citizens collect them at
a certain location and coordinate with the city for pick up on a certain
day they may be willing to schedule something of the sort. (I am trying
to do a trial run in a near by neighborhood, we already did this in
Glover Park) It is important that all BROKEN cans be removed so that
alleys are cleaner and Solid Waste Inspectors may enforce the sanitation
laws. I will try to set this up and forward related contact info to
you.  PS I responded to Mr. Miller who though the new cans were such "A
Waste."

Information for reporting "Out Streetlights"  This is how you can
actually help make your block  safer. Please report streetlight repairs
to 269-0855. You must know if the pole is WOOD or METAL, have an exact
address or pole # . This precise information will help facilitate the
repair.

CARING FOR YOUR PETS IN AN EMERGENCY
The following is edited from a notice sent by Darnot@aol.com
The September 11 disaster in New York was also a wake-up call to all of
us who have and
love our pets, that part of our obligation to them is to HAVE PLANS for
our animals in times of sudden & unexpected emergencies. A prominent
note on a refrigerator door or on top of the address book by the phone
indicating  the person to call in the event of unforeseen tragedy is a
very small, but extremely important action. In light of the events of
9-11-01, we cannot emphasize this enough.

New York City's animal control shelter is the Center for Animal Care &
Control. It desperately need reliable people to help with offers of
foster, adoption & financial support. It is a literally a matter of life
& death for many thousands of formerly loved and cared for pets.  The
web site is http://www.geocities.com/~nyca/, or contact Darnot@aol.com
for more information.
