CITY WATER PROBLEM
From: <ckurtz@odonoghuelaw.com>
For several months, water constantly flows up onto the street from a
manhole on Donaldson Place and then runs across Belt Road into the sewer.
This a large section of road that is always wet. Does anyone know why the
District hasn't corrected this problem since the water main break? It
doesn't appear that anything is being done to correct it. Belt Road stays
wet and will become more of a problem if it ices over. Water will also do
substantial damage to the road surface as well as cause accidents if icing
occurs. I'm very concerned because my garage and two vehicles are nearby.
Thanks.

**** From: Chandler, Jerry <ChandlerJe@butte.edu>
I received a telephone call last evening from an individual identifying
himself as an AT&T Service technician who was conducting a test on
telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch
nine(9), zero(0), the pound sign (#), and then hang up.
Luckily, I was suspicious and refused.
Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing
90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone
line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your
home phone number.
I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many
local jails/prisons.
Please beware. DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE.

A little over 2 weeks ago a neighbor was up at 2:00 AM with her baby and
looked out to see a man apparently attempting to steal her car, which

not sure
if she has. Wanted to bring to your attention since their clearly is some
kind of pattern.

QUESTION RE: ZONING FOR PARKING STICKERS
From: Michael Carter <MRECarter@marinecorps.com>
Our neighborhood, Spring Valley West, just south of Mass (Yuma st,
Warren St, etc) is technically a private association, although our
streets are traveled by the public. We are not part of the Zone 3 but
would like to be, or at least be able to park in zone 3.
Our windshield stickers say "No RPP" which means if we drive a block to
visit stores or friends/family we can't legally park for more that a few
hours.
Who do we call/contact?
Thanks ... Michael

PARKING AND THE AU LAW SCHOOL
Letter to Dean Jaffe
From: <PalmerPsy@aol.com>
Dear Dean of Students Jaffe:
Walter Labitsky, the Facilities Manager at the AU/Washington College of Law
building on Massachusetts Ave, gave me your e-mail address and suggested I
write you directly. I am a long-time Washingtonian and resident of
Spring Valley.
As you know, I have been working with Mr. Labitsky and with his deputy Mr.
Ronald Taylor about the massive numbers WCL students parking in the
areas away
from the School, in violation of the AU-community agreements about
parking in
campus lots/garages.
I am particularly concerned that these future "Officers of the Court" have
signed a pledge to the university that they will obey the rules and park
where
they are supposed to, and then turn around and treat these rules like
teenagers
--applicable to everybody but them. One would expect that by the time they
reach the stage of professional training they would be acting more
ethically. I
think you and the other deans and faculty of the professional school would
want to turn around this wholesale violation of rules of behavior,
pledged by
their signatures, before your graduates establish patterns of unethical
behavior
that will harm the law and your institution's reputation.
I am concerned that despite a reasonably diligent effort on the part of
Mr.
Labitsky and the security staff, the effort is manifestly inadequate and
more
direct and meaningful measures need to be undertaken. This is demonstrated
each morning by the flood of laptop-carrying students getting out of their
out-of-state (or out-of-Ward 3) cars spilling out of the neighborhoods
north and
south of the WCL building toward the school; they are not residents of
AU Park
or Spring Valley and they are not arriving by bus.
I would like to meet with you and possibly Dean Grossman (who I understand
lives in Spring Valley) about your getting more directly involved. Please
contact me with some suggested times that we can begin to find a mutually
convenient time to meet and dialogue about the degraded ethical culture
represented
by this lapse on the part of many of your students.
Richard R. Palmer
