TOWER PRESS CONFERENCE THIS AFTERNOON
IN THE 'HOOD
From: CooperJM@aol.com
PRESS CONFERENCE
TOWER SITE
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 5:30 pm
As you know, the city will be formally revoking the tower permit at
5:00pm
(technically, Carlynn Fuller, Acting Director DCRA, will be making
a decision
about revoking the permit). We want to respond to:
- the revocation of the permit
- remarks recently made by American Tower in the press:
" 'What's really going to cost the city money is the mayor's decision
to gain
political favor from a small group of residents,' " attorney
John Brennan
said October 6..." The Common Denominator, October 9
"An attorney for the company...said yesterday that the District 'would
be
making a costly mistake' if it halted construction in response to complaints
from residents and recently discovered missteps in the permit process.
"Stopping the project also 'would send a terrible signal to the business
community'..." The Washington Post, September 29
" 'Sure it's fun for the neighbors to get together and call us names,
but the
[tower] is permitted as a matter of right' in it's zone at 4623 41st
St., he
said." Northwest Current, October 4
We need to keep political momentum on our side.
Please join us!

TIRE SLASHINGS
From: Ckenrick@aol.com (Carolina Kenrick)
Last Tuesday night a tire of my car was slashed. As AAA was replacing
it the
following day, a young man walking a couple of dogs said that his Explorer
had a tire slashed and knew of a couple of others on 45th St. who had
experienced the same problems and someone else off Yuma St..
He said he
called the police. It is dreadful to think that we have such
vandals in our
neighbood.
LIBRARY BOOKSALE THIS WEEKEND
From: kcrdlb@bellatlantic.net (Kathryn Ray)
The Tenley Library Book Sale will be this Saturday, Oct. 14, 12-4 PM.
Tenley Library accepts books for the book sale throughout the year.
Books
must be in good condition and still of timely interest. Please,
no tax
guides or
consumer reports for 1989. Books about the Soviet Union taking
over the world
don't sell well, either.

WASHINGTON GAS AND DEAD FURNACES
From: gene.thompson@jeremiah.com (Gene Thompson)
I returned last night to discover my heating system was not functioning
AND
that Washington Gas no longer does service calls. In fact their
phone system
was closed! Am I the only one who did not know this?
So I spent the night without heat. Can this policy be reversed?
