SCAMMED!
From:   Mlfrumin

I was very stupid today and got scammed  at Kinkos by a guy who wandered into
the store. He wanted a $20 for two $10s.  I gave him a $20, he walked away
and then returned and said I had only given him a $1.  He was hostile and
seemed prepared to make a major production, and I wasn't, so I gave him
another $20.  But since he had given me the two tens I was only out $20.
Which could have been worse, but I'd still like to prevent other people from
making the same mistake.

I was interested to read the item from Kirsten Oldenberg re: her
stolen credit card number.  The same thing happened to us.  The reported
address of the thief was somewhere in New York State.  By the time we got
notice, he had charged a $20,000 watch (who buys a $20K watch anyway??) and
several other luxury items.  So we now have a shredder.

CAR REGISTRATION RENEWAL ON THE WEB
www.dmv.dcgov.org
From:   QuirkMK@state.gov (Quirk, Mary K)

On 3/19/00 a neighbor renewed car registration/residential parking on the
web. The DMV  webpage said allow 10 business days for receipt of the
stickers. On 4/5/00 the neighbor called DMV in the evening about non-receipt
to date of stickers. DMV operator said the info from 3/19 was not "retrieved"
til 3/28, and to allow at least 10 days from then at least, and said "why are
you worried, your registration doesn't expire til end of April" to wit
neighbor answered "we try to renew registration well in advance of expiration
date".  Perhaps others are experiencing delays like this. According to the
operator only one person "retrieves" from the web, and only does it one time
every five days.
So allow PLENTY of time if one is renewing on the web.
