HOUSE ON 42ND STREET FINALLY BOARDED UP
The initial request for boarding up this house was made last summer
and it
has finally happened. I don't know who pounded in the silver nail that
did
the trick, but the following all got involved and deserve our thanks:
>From DCRA: Neighborhood Stabilization Officers James Hauser
and Roger
Lovett, as well as Hubert Johnson and Victor Brown, and Ronald
Duke from
DCRA enforcement.
>From 2D Police: Vice Sergeant Regina Funk
>From U.S. Attorney's Office: Charlene Graves
HOME PROPERTY ASSESSMENT
If you live in AU Park you should have received a property assessment
in the
past three years. If you did not receive one in the mail, as I did
not, you
might want to check it out on the web. That's where I learned that
mine had
gone up. The web site is at www.washingtondc.gov
ANC3E GRANT APPLICATIONS
If your organization would like to request a grant from ANC3E, that
request
should be submitted, along with a presentation, at the May ANC meeting.
CONSUMER QUESTION From: WTBreer@aol.com
This resident had a problem with a toy store and would like to know
if others
in this area have also had a problem. She said that she ordered an
outdoor
play set and it took an extremely long time for the set to be delivered
and
installed. If you have had a problem with this type of store, she would
like
to hear from you.

TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT IN PSA 202 AND NEIGHBORING PSAs
If there are some intersections that you would like Lieutenant Mark
Carter to
focus on for enforcement, he can be reached on MPDCPSA202@netscape.net.
This
is one of those areas where squeaky gears have a good chance of getting
oiled, so I encourage you to bring problem intersections to his attention.

Remember.. the camera takes a photo
of the front and the back of your vehicle!

(from Themail@DCwatch.com -- Gary Imhoff)
Light cameras use a loop detector in the pavement. When the light turns
red, a loop detector in front of the stop line senses movement and
activates the camera, which takes a picture at that moment and another
picture a split-second later. This shows what the car was actually
doing. Cameras work ONLY when the light is actually red, not yellow
--
they won't record a car that enters the intersection on a yellow light.
They also would show that a car was turning if that is what it was
doing.
People go through red lights appallingly often, and the cameras really
do reduce such behavior dramatically. A huge percent of urban crashes
(my numbers are at the office but I can get them if you want) are caused
by red-light running; it's a particularly dangerous violation. It also
slows traffic because people learn to hesitate on the green and don't
make full use of the signal time.
HUNTIN' FOR A HOME
From: Darnot@aol.com
I am looking for loving homes for a small brood of cats that I helped
rescue.
All have been
spayed/neutered and have their shots and have tested negative for feline
aids
and feline leukemia. If you know anyone who might be interested PLEASE
have
them call me @ 202/537-1331 or e-mail me at darnot@aol.com. Only serious
takers need apply!
1. AURORA and KASPER
This mother/son duo are completely white with pale yellow eyes. Aurora
has a
patch of light grey on her head. They both have a remarkable sense
of humor
and are quite chatty. They were living under an abandoned house and
appear
to have been someone's pet at one time. However, they have been on
their own
for a while and don't trust people but their shyness can be overcome
w/alot of
love and patience. They are very attached to each other and would like
to
find a home where they can stay together.
2. CHLO
Chlo comes from a colony that I have been monitoring for over
a year. I
placed her two sisters in loving homes (with older male cats) and with
a lot
of petting and cuddling, they are thriving! Chlo is quite shy
and would
need someone who is extremely understanding and would have the patience
to
build
her trust. She gets along very well with other cats (she loves Aurora--see
above). Chlo is predominantly grey (along the lines of a Russian
Blue) with
bursts of gold and emerald green eyes. Chlo is the sweetest and
once you
get her going has an awesome motor purr.
3. TABITHA
Is a jet black extroverted youngster. Tabitha must have been someone's
cat
because she gets along really well with people and children. Tabitha,
however, is not so crazy about other cats. She would do better as the
queen
of the roost. Although perfect, Tabitha has funny misshapen pads on
her
little paws. She truly has a unique and loving personality. I don't
think I
have ever seen such a friendly cat who despite her awful living conditions
managed to maintain a really happy disposition.
Spread the word, maybe my babies will get lucky!
