Tuesday Meeting Summary:
This was a big day for the Stop the Tower effort, with television coverage
on
three major stations: Channel 4 (the lead story at 6pm), Channel
7 & Channel
9, and print coverage of our meeting by the Washington Post & The
Northwest
Current.
THANKS for all our terrific neighbors, about 60 of us, who made Tuesday
night
a really productive meeting at the Tenley Library.
We heard from Jill Diskin, ANC3E Commissioner, and Jo Ann Ginsberg,
Chief of
Staff for Councilmember Kathy Patterson, about the chronology of events
leading up to this tower, and about the efforts both the ANC and
Councilmember Patterson's office (substantial) have been making to
research
and stop construction of this tower. Carylnn Fuller, Acting Director
of
DCRA, announced that Mayor Williams agrees with us that a tower of
this type
should not be located in a residential community like ours, and that
he is
meeting with Corporation Counsel on Thursday to explore what steps
to take to
halt construction and remove this tower. Michael Johnson, Zoning
Administrator, answered questions about DC regulations concerning permitting
the tower.
Our group of concerned neighbors agreed that we must keep political
pressure
on the Mayor's office until results are achieved. The immediate
action
chosen is the demonstration listed above.
Very importantly, four volunteer committees were formed:
1. Political action.

The political action committee is gathering to make placards at the
Coopers,
4101 Davenport St (yellow house, corner of 41st & Davenport) at
7 pm
Wednesday 9/27, for the demonstration Thursday morning. All are
welcome.
Bring creative supplies!
The long & the short of it is we are on the move. Please join
us in any way
you can. Our intention, as a community, is to STOP THIS TOWER
NOW! See that it's pulled down, and that legislation is passed
protecting
the communities of our city from such towers in the future. And
finally, we
are committed to exploring the effects of the current numerous transmission
towers already emitting electro-magnetic radition into our community
environment, including long-term health effects for ourselves &
our children;
and electronic interference affecting our households.
Thank you all for your active & intelligent support. Together,
WE WILL
WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
